This isn’t an official app from Google, though

A long time ago, Google decided not to develop any other applications for Windows 8, even though it was pretty clear that there were a lot of people using Microsoft’s new operating system and who needed access to services belonging to the search giant.

But Google’s decision to stay away from Windows 8 created a new opportunity for third-party app developers, who started building their own solutions to provide users of Microsoft’s modern OS with easy access to YouTube, Google, Gmail, or other products.

As far as YouTube is concerned, there are lots of free clients up for grabs right now, so it might be a little be a bit surprising to see an app that asks you to pay $4.49 (3.80 euro) to watch videos in the Modern UI.

In fact, what’s more uncanny is the fact that the app is called just “YouTube,” which makes it difficult to understand why Microsoft actually approved this listing for the store. It’s a well-known fact that scam apps have been around for a while in the Windows Store, so such a listing could create more confusion among those looking for a YouTube client.

And still, despite the name, this isn’t quite a scam app, as it still offers a trial version, so you can give it a shot before buying it. The feature lineup isn’t impressive, but at least you can see what it’s up to before spending a few dollars on it, so make sure that you get the trial before anything else.
