There's no doubt that 7-Zip remains one of the most popular file compression tools on the market, especially because it comes with a freeware license, so updates are extremely important for lots of users out there.

7-Zip 9.22 Beta is a preview version of the next stable release that gives users the chance to try out its feature lineup before the public launch, while also helping the developing team fix any bugs that might exist in the app.

There are no release notes for this beta version right now, as the parent company launched it only a few minutes ago, but it's safe to assume that it addresses the majority of bugs you've found in the previous versions. As a result, make sure that you deploy this version if you've found some issues in other betas.

Of course, 7-Zip continues to work like a charm on all Windows editions on the market, including Windows XP, which remains the second most-used operating system worldwide despite the fact that Microsoft is no longer releasing updates and security patches.

Overall, this new release is quite a great occasion to try out the feature lineup of the next stable build, so download 7-Zip 7.22 Beta right now to see what it brings new.

Update: we changed the title to reflect that the new version is actually 9.33 Alpha (the original article pointed to 9.22 Beta).

This was released a couple of days ago and brought a new “Add to archive” dialog box, an improved “Extract” screen with options to “Eliminate duplication of root folder,” revised command line version, and improved NSIS support. Here is the full changelog for 7-Zip 9.33 Alpha and thanks to everyone for sending this in.
