Search is now available as part of Cortana in Windows 10

Microsoft redesigned the Windows 10 Start menu with live tiles and modern features, but the company removed the search box from the menu in order to offer it as a separate option that's part of Cortana.

Basically, there's no separate search box in the Windows 10 Start menu, but if you launch it and start typing, the search feature is automatically launched and you can look for files or information both online and offline.

This behavior should allow for faster searching, but it turns out that many insiders aren't actually pleased with it.

The Windows Feedback app available in Windows 10 reveals that more than 1,770 users want the search box back in the Start menu, most likely because it helped provide the familiar experience available in Windows 7.

Microsoft responded to this request and said that “we got this feedback and we're using it to improve your experience,” so the type and search feature that's now available in the Start menu is most likely the company's answer to it because it makes searching faster and easier for everyone.

Of course, there's still plenty of time to tweak searching in the Start menu before RTM, as the company is expected to sign off the operating system in June, before the public launch in July.
