This month's Patch Tuesday brought us at least two botched updates, and as we already reported to you last week, Microsoft pulled one of them to make sure that no other computers would be affected.
But it turns out that the majority of Windows computers with Windows Update turned on have already received KB3004394 and are now experiencing issues with Windows Defender or graphics drivers installation.
AMD's Technical evangelist for Radeon has confirmed in a tweet that KB3004394 is indeed breaking down the installation of update of graphics drivers, including the new Catalyst Omega, and has recommended everyone to remove this particular patch from their computers.
In order to address problems with KB3004394, Microsoft rolled out KB3024777 patch, explaining that such graphic drivers issues were common on Windows 7 after the installation of the original bulletin.
“We have found that this update is causing additional problem on computers that are running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This includes the inability to install future updates,” Redmond said.
At this point, there are no clear numbers as to how many computers have been affected by the bulletin, but since AMD itself confirms that it breaks down graphic drivers, there's no doubt that making everyone aware of the existence of this faulty patch is a must.
NVIDIA users have also commented on Twitter that GeForce drivers installation is blocked after KB3004394 deployment, but we're still waiting for an official confirmation on this.
If you are having issues installing a GFX driver, remove Microsoft update KB3004394 from your system. Broken update; prevents driver install
