Advanced Codecs for Windows 7 and 8 4.2.8 Final was officially released only a few minutes ago and it brings several updates for the built-in utilities.

As you could easily figure out by simply reading the program’s name, this codec pack is mostly aimed at Windows 7 users, but it can also work very well on Windows 8 and even 8.1.

According to the official release notes, version 4.2.8 updates the LAV filters to 58.2+, while the AVI playback has also received several improvements.

The codec pack does a great job when it comes to dealing with the common formats on the market, including MKV, MKA, RMVB, Xvid, AMR, MPC, OFR, DivX, APE, FLAC, OGG, OGM, OGV, EVO, FLV or M4B, all of which can be easily played with Windows Media Player.
