Avast! 2014 is rapidly developing into a stable version as the company has rolled out a new release candidate today. Revision 9.0.2004 is the second RC for the product line and includes fixes for all previously known issues.

The developer has announced on its forum that the problem with failure to open the registration panel from the taskbar icon has been eliminated and that further optimizations of the graphical user interface have been added. On the same note, the GUI should no longer freeze on the user.

The fresh build also integrates repairs for the network shield and SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) alerts. Some “very unspecified” crashes have been addressed.

Additional changes refer to a glitch with the mail shield related to certificates in Thunderbird email client.

Despite all these repairs, the developer still has one known issue to scratch off the list: occasional crashing of Internet Explorer when clicking on the Online Protection plugin icon.
