Yahoo’s telecommuting ban is undoubtedly a very controversial solution and, while some think that Marissa Mayer made the right choice, others believe that it’s more of a counterproductive decision.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is one of those who think that employees should be provided with as much flexibility as possible, so when he was asked by CNNMoney reporters about Yahoo’s strategy, he preferred to smile.

While Gates hasn’t commented on Yahoo’s decision directly, he did emphasize that the current technologies available on the market should be used to give employees more flexibility, hinting that banning telecommuting isn’t such a good idea.

“If you've got development centers all over the world, you've got a sales force out with the customers, the fact that tools like Skype, digital collaboration are letting people work better at a distance, that is a wonderful thing,” he explained.
