It introduces “Photon” technology to speed up scanning

Bitdefender launched the new line of products. Unlike the previous editions, the company seems to have dropped the version number in the interface, a trend noticeable in security suites from other vendors as well.

The new Bitdefender products (Antivirus Plus, Internet Security and Total Security) bring to the table a slightly changed interface (flat and with straight corners), better suited for Windows 8, and integrate a new scanning technology.

Dubbed Photon by the company, the new scan system should speed up the process significantly, without taking its toll on system resources.

Photon works by identifying files that have already been scanned and which have not been altered in the meantime, and it skips processing them, thus decreasing the amount of files that need to be checked.

According to a company’s blog post, the new technology is adaptive, so it adjusts to every PC configuration and learns which processes need monitoring and which do not.

For those that want to try version 2013 of the products (Total Security 2013 reviewed here) we have a hefty discount for all of them: any product for $19.95 / 15.96 EUR (license valid 3 PCs, for 1 year). The offer is available until July 12.
