Calibre (reviewed here) received a new update today, to build 0.9.27, which expands the list of sources for downloading metadata.

The new additions are Google’s image search and bigbooksearch.com and you can enable them from the configuration panel of the application, under “Metadata download” section.

The content server has been improved and now it allows specifying a restriction for usage when it is embedded as a WSGI app.

Apart from this, the developer also included repairs that address problems such as the one with searching for current book/title/author by right clicking the get books icon.

On the same note, the application should no longer fail to identify JPEG images with 8BIM headers created with Adobe Photoshop.
