Classic Shell is getting closer to a new stable release. The developer announced the availability of a release candidate, which has full support for the upcoming Windows version.

Although in RC stage, the dev included a couple of new options in the application. Among them are animated menu transitions for the Windows 7 style and a status bar for the file manager in Windows 8 and 8.1. This bar is designed to display the total size of all the files selected in a folder along with the amount of free disk space available.

Also new in this revision is that administrators can now change the default settings without locking them.

As far as improvements are concerned, the developer worked on the hovering functionality of the start button and eliminated glitches that had been reported during the beta stage of development.
