Microsoft will kick off the Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 next week, again willing to share its latest plans with partners across the world and attending the event.

What's more interesting for Windows users, however, is the rumor that Redmond might after all speak about Windows 9 publicly for the first time ever, although it's not yet clear whether the company is planning to do this so early.

This rumor came via Russian leaker WZor who previously said that the WPC 2014 would be used by Microsoft not only to talk about Windows 9, but also to present the new Windows 8.1 Update 2 which is expected to be released to users in mid-August.

This second Windows 8.1 update indeed has strong chances to see daylight next week, but according to latest reports on the matter, Windows 9 might remain an enigma for a few more months, as Microsoft is hard at work to complete development of the first preview version of the operating system.

A public launch of Windows 9 beta could take place this fall, while the official debut is expected to happen in early 2015 if everything goes according to the plan.

Of course, Softpedia will cover next weeks' WPC 2014 event, so keep an eye on our news section to find out the latest on Windows.
