Back in October when Microsoft officially introduced the new Windows 8.1, the company also released Windows Store gift cards, thus providing users with an alternative option to buy apps found in the store.

Today, Redmond announced that $25 (€18.5) Windows Store gift cards will be offered to all those who purchase a touch PC or tablet running Windows 8 or 8.1, as part of a new promo across the United States.

“To celebrate apps this season, when you buy a new touch PC or tablet running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 at a participating U.S. retailer you’ll receive a promotional $25 Windows Store gift card to purchase your favorite apps and games in the Windows Store,” Microsoft said.

The participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, Office Depot, Walmart, Microsoft Stores, Staples and Office Max. The promo runs through December 28.

All Windows Store gift cards can be redeemed by simply entering the code in the store on the payment options screen which can be accessed via the Charms bar.
