Piriform released today a new update for Defraggler, a portable utility that can defragment the files on the hard disk and thus improve overall system performance.

Build 2.17 of the program comes with a new tab that reveals statistics about the actions taken by the application. This includes amount of files analyzed, defragmented, number of fragments reduced, or defragmentation operations that have been carried out.

The developer has announced that this revision includes optimization for SSD hardware from Intel, Plextor, Micron, and OCZ. Also new is the availability of progress information in the tray tooltip.

As far as improvements are concerned, Defraggler 2.17 should provide a better estimation of the time remaining for completing the current procedure. On the same note, the product’s free space defragmentation routine has been tweaked for better results.

Additional optimizations refer to the benchmarking algorithm and the memory usage.
