Google completely dominates the European search market

Microsoft was, is, and will most likely continue to be the only company in the world that could compete against Google in the search market, and former CEO Steve Ballmer used the same words to explain their efforts a couple of years ago.

But while worldwide Bing actually manages to get a share of around 19 percent in the search engine industry, not the same thing can be said about Europe.

These figures, which were provided by StatCounter for the month of December, show that Google remains the dominant search engine on the Old Continent, no matter how hard the software giant is actually struggling to stay close to its rival.

And the figures pretty much speak for themselves and leave no room for any forecasts. Google is number one with a share of 92.3 percent in Europe, and yes, Bing is second but very, very far behind with only 2.72 percent. Yahoo is third with 2.34 percent, while the others don’t even matter in this fight because it’s pretty clear that challenging Google right now on the continent is a waste of time.

Microsoft will obviously continue to invest in Bing and its features, but it will probably take many years until someone actually manages to get really close to Google.

Bing has slowly evolved from a service to a stand-alone platform powering many key products, including Cortana and Siri, so things could change in the coming years with a little luck.
