Gimp 2.8.0 is finally here, after a couple of years in the making, the next major update to the popular open source photo editing and graphics software has arrived. Those willing to put up with the possible bugs and instability have been able to check out the new features in action for a while now.

But it's only with the stable release that GIMP 2.8.0 is ready for production use. There are plenty of new features, but a couple stand out. The first is the single window mode which, as the name suggests, enables users to have the canvas as well as the tool dialogues all in the same place, reducing desktop clutter.

The second is better though not complete support for GEGL, a new graphics library that adds hardware acceleration as well as plenty of other improvements over the technology Gimp has used so far. Download GIMP for Windows Download GIMP for Mac Download GIMP for Linux
