Over the weekend, the stable version for Paint.NET 3.5.11 has emerged. The release incorporates the same changes as in the case of the preceding beta build, which consist of a couple of fixes and improvements for some of the effects.

The developer announces that the fresh revision is able to correctly calculate the alpha values for non-opaque pixels and that the memory usage should be more efficient when selection manipulation operations abound in the history/undo dialog. This has been achieved by saving all the “undo” data straight to disk.

Performance improvements included in this stable build touch on Sharpen, Median, Fragment and Unfocus effects. According to the developer, these effects should perform better by 25%, 30%, 40% and 100%, respectively.

An important aspect is the update component’s ability to deliver the upcoming major revision, Paint.NET 4.0, which is scheduled to appear towards the end of the year or the beginning of 2014.
