Windows 8.1 is indeed available with a freeware license, but users of older Windows versions have no other option than to purchase a stand-alone copy available for at least $119.99 (€90).

If you do want to try out Windows 8.1 without paying for it, Microsoft has got you covered. The company rolled out a 30-day trial of Windows 8.1 Enterprise, which lets you take the operating system for a spin on both 32- and 64-bit machines.

“Windows 8.1 Enterprise provides IT professionals with a reliable and easy-to-manage infrastructure for today’s changing and increasingly mobile work styles. It’s the fastest and most secure OS from Microsoft for desktop, laptop, or tablet,” Microsoft says.

Windows 8.1 Enterprise comes as 32- and 64-bit ISOs and supports the following languages: English (United States), English (Great Britain), German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional).
