Microsoft has just launched the official Xbox One SmartGlass app for Windows 8.1, thus giving owners the power to navigate on their new gaming console using the keyboard or touch.

The application, which has also arrived on Android today, offers support for desktop and tablet versions of Windows 8.1, so you can install it on a Surface RT as well.

The app includes options to control your media and set top box with the SmartGlass remote control, browse the web using a tablet, or track achievements, chat with friends and access the help files of each game using a Windows 8.1 device.

“Xbox One SmartGlass is the perfect companion app for your Xbox One, both in your living room and on the go. Connect and control your Xbox One. Stay connected with the games and gamers you like. And add a new dimension to your console entertainment with the mobile device you already own,” Microsoft says in the official description of the app.

Of course, the program is offered free of charge, so go ahead and download Xbox One SmartGlass for Windows 8.1 if you’re planning to make the most of the new gaming console.
