ESET rolled out the stable revisions for version 7 of NOD32 Antivirus and the more feature-rich suite, Smart Security.

The products have two newly introduced features in common, while a third one is available only for the richer package.

Exploit Blocker relies on patent-pending technology designed to protect users from complex attacks that target vulnerable applications. Its purpose is to dismantle malicious activities leveraging vulnerabilities in popular software installed on the system. The developer touts its efficiency against zero-day threats.

Advanced Memory Scanner, also present in both suites, complements Exploit Blocker and protects the computer against malware that rely on file obfuscation and encryption to maintain their stealth.

It acts by analyzing the behavior of the processes that load into memory, when they’re in uncloaked state.

Vulnerability Shield is the third component newly available and it is available only for Smart Security package. This component is an extension of the firewall and targets vulnerabilities in network protocols.

“The new technologies in version 7 of our flagship products are developed and implemented in a unique way so they work in concert and are capable of proactively detecting and blocking vulnerabilities such as the February 2013 PDF exploit CVE-2013-0641, dubbed the exploit of the year because of its high popularity and often inclusion in Exploit Kits, also awarded Pwnie Award for Best Client-Side Bug at BlackHat 2013,” says Juraj Malcho, ESET chief research officer.

Apart from these additions, ESET also provides improved social media scanning for better protection against threats piping in through Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Furthermore, malware cleaning has been strengthened through the introduction of a specialized cleaner that should be able to kick out resistant malware such as rootkits.
