Windows XP will be officially discontinued next year on April 8

Windows XP is no longer a secure operating system and will get even more vulnerable starting April 8, 2014 when Microsoft is set to officially discontinue the platform.

Now Scott Anderson, president of Core Business Services in Medford, told Mail Tribune that seeing Windows XP discontinued is not at all a surprising thing, especially because Redmond has planned to do so since the Vista disaster.

"Microsoft has been trying to get on to the next operating system since the Vista disaster," Anderson was quoted as saying. "Windows 7 was a solid operating system that people started to place on their computers as they needed to refresh their systems, but it was still a slower adoption because you could still buy XP on new machines."

The problem is that only a few users actually seem to care about these warnings, with many people planning to stick with Windows XP beyond the retirement date.

At this point, more than 30 percent of the users worldwide are still running Windows XP on their desktop computers.
