Microsoft will patch the 11-year-old operating system next week

Microsoft has announced that Patch Tuesday would bring a total of eight security bulletins, three of which are labeled as critical and are supposed to fix flaws in Exchange and Windows software.

Windows XP is one of the patched operating systems, and security experts recommend users to deploy the fixes as soon as they are delivered, as the platform’s retirement date is just around the corner.

“Bulletin number two impacts legacy code, primarily XP. Remember, XP is done in April so be sure to get your upgrade plans in place. Bulletin three rounds out the critical patches with an Exchange issue,” Paul Henry, security and forensics analyst at Lumension, was quoted as saying by SC Magazine. Windows XP will be officially retired on April 8, 2014, so Microsoft is still trying to help users understand the risks of staying with this OS beyond its retirement date. Consumers, on the other hand, don’t seem to get the message, as XP is still powering 37 percent of computers worldwide.
