Microsoft’s apps no longer lead the charts

Ever since it arrived on Windows 8, the official Metro version of Facebook climbed on the first position of the top free apps in the store and remained there for months, and now, more than one year after its launch, this client continues to lead the charts.

The official Facebook app arrived on modern Windows together with Windows 8.1 in October 2013 and is exclusively available on this OS version, which means that Windows 8 users cannot install it and need to turn to third-party clients.

Right now, the Facebook client for Windows 8 is the number one free app in the store, which is kind of a big achievement, given the fact that Microsoft’s own apps were usually ruling the tops.

At this point, Netflix is on the second position, while Microsoft’s Skype comes third. Hyper for YouTube, one of the best YouTube apps on Windows 8, is fourth, followed by Twitter and Hulu Plus. Surprisingly, people are still using the Twitter app, despite the fact that no updates have been released in the last six months or so and its feature lineup is quite basic.

Skype, on the other hands, is number one as far as the number of ratings is concerned, as more than 400,000 users reviewed this app.

Facebook has an overall rating of 4 stars and 47,500 votes, while Netflix has the same rating but with 177,708 ratings.
