VLC Media Player 2.1.0 Pre1 is out, so users who wish to get a glimpse into the feature lineup of the next major release of the app could get it right now.
The long list of improvements comprises updates for the built-in decodes, third-party libraries, encoders, demuxers, and audio filters, but also optimizations for the stream output, audio and video output and interface.
The new version also improves the VLC Media Player skin support and removes some modules, thus making the application not only lighter, but also faster and a bit more stable.
Of course, this early version of the application works on basically every version of Windows out there, including the ancient XP and the newly-launched Windows 8.
Still no word on the Metro version of VLC Media Player.
