The instrument is designed to eliminate Flamer Trojan only

Bitdefender just released a removal tool for the recently discovered malware, Flamer Trojan, also labeled “Flame” by other anti-virus labs. The tool is particularly important since recent findings by the AV industry classify this threat as the most sophisticated to date.

Flamer’s complexity and flexibility exceeds that of Stuxnet and Duqu, as it’s backdoor, Trojan and worm-like features have impressive coding and technology behind.

Long story short, it is designed to surreptitiously spy on computer activity and send encrypted data (screenshots, keyboard and audio captures, network sniffing) to remote servers via HTTPS. The remote servers can also update the malware and add new modules.

However, it does not steal money or bank account credentials and, as such, it is believed that its purpose is most likely cyber espionage.

Bitdefender’s tool is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms and it is designed to detect and eliminate only Flamer and its components.
