Microsoft announced earlier this month that it would stick to its initial April 8, 2014 retirement date for Windows XP, planning to move all users to either Windows 7 or Windows 8 by this date.

Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is now trying to show everyone the risks of using Windows XP beyond this deadline, while also recommending local users to move to a newer Windows version or to… Linux.

Disappointed with Microsoft’s decision to stop providing Windows XP platforms with updates and security patches, many users have already expressed their intention to dump Windows completely and embrace the open source operating system.

Of course, not the same thing can be said about businesses, as many are yet to start the migration to a newer platform, mostly due to the high costs in terms of time and money.
