Touch-capable notebooks are selling much better these days

Windows 8 is an operating system that’s mostly focused on touch, so the slow uptake of touch-capable devices has clearly affected sales of Microsoft’s new Windows OS too.

But according to stats provided by Displaybank and published by Digitimes, touchscreen units are a lot more attractive these days, so Windows 8 is also expected to register a major boost in the coming months.

Shipments of touch-capable notebooks reached 4.57 million in the first quarter of 2013, which represents an increase of 51.8 percent versus the quarter before.

Touchscreen units are projected to continue their growth in the coming months, especially because tech giant Microsoft is preparing to release a major OS upgrade that’ll also put the focus on touch.

Of course, it also depends on the changes Microsoft is planning to make to this OS, but as far as the company is concerned, Windows 8.1 is going to be mostly focused on customer feedback.
