Google has announced that it is retiring Chrome Frame for Microsoft Internet Explorer, so support and updates will no longer be provided as of January 2014.
Chrome Frame is a browser plugin that allows users to bring the Chrome engine in Internet Explorer, but given the fact that Microsoft has already developed a “modern” browser, the search giant thinks that such an add-on is useless.
“Today, most people are using modern browsers that support the majority of the latest web technologies. Better yet, the usage of legacy browsers is declining significantly and newer browsers stay up to date automatically, which means the leading edge has become mainstream,” Google explained, without actually pointing directly to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
At the same time, Google also recommended developers using the existing plugin to make the move to a newer browser, be it Chrome or even Microsoft’s own Internet Explorer 10.
