Starting today, users interested in connecting their Google accounts to Windows 8 and Windows RT PCs and tablets will no longer be able to do so, as the Internet giant has dropped support for all new Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) connections.
Users who have already connected their Google accounts to their PCs won’t be affected by this, and will be able to continue using the Mail, People or Calendar apps just as before.
New users, however, won’t enjoy the feature, though they will be able to add their Google account to the Mail app on Windows 8 (as long as they won’t select “Include your Google contacts and calendars,” Microsoft notes).
Furthermore, they will need to go to the Microsoft account website to add their Google contacts with the Mail, People, Calendar, and Messaging apps.
Or, as Microsoft puts it, they can simply switch to Outlook.com and leave Google behind altogether.
