Simple trick to turn off all animations on Windows 10

Microsoft implemented new window animations in Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9860, and while they look really good, there’s no doubt that some could find them annoying after a few hours on the desktop.

The same happened to us today, so after digging a little bit in the new build, we found a very simple way to turn them off and switch to a no-effect configuration that seems to come in handier for those who’re focused exclusively on productivity and less on visual tweaks.

Just like it was the case with older Windows versions, it’s enough to enter the “Advanced system settings” screen and look for the window animations options.

To do this, follow this path:

code
Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings < Performance Settings
In this tab, look for the “Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing” and uncheck it.

Alternatively, you can also type the following command in the Start menu, and hit enter to reach the System Properties screen:

code
Systempropertiesperformance
Of course, this is just a temporary workaround until Microsoft implements more customization options for the new animations, as the company is expected to allow users to decide whether they wish to see these visual effects or not. More information, however, will be provided when new Windows 10 builds come out.
