You need to roll back to Windows Phone 8.1 first

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10080 last week with support for plenty of new phone models, including Lumia 930 and Lumia Icon, so many more users are now eligible for the update.

The first build of Windows 10 for phones, released on February 12, worked on only six different models, but many turned to a third-party hack to install it on pretty much any Windows Phone model out there.

And now because a new build is available, everyone wants to update, but those with hacked devices have a little bit more work to do.

First of all, they need to flash their devices with Windows Phone Recovery Tool and go back to Windows Phone 8.1. Afterwards, they might need to install all available updates, although we’ve heard from some users that proceeding without all the updates works too.

Once your device is fully up to date, if that’s indeed required, install the Windows Insider app from the Windows Phone store, log in with your Microsoft credentials and choose the fast ring. The new build should show up and you should then be able to get it from the phone update section.

Keep in mind that hacking your device with the purpose of running an unsupported build of Windows 10 Mobile is not recommended and this could brick your device for ever. Microsoft does not provide support for hacked devices, so you’re on your own from the moment you hit the start button.
