While Microsoft struggles to move users to newer versions of its in-house browser, some other online services drop support for these two versions, especially due to their declining market share.
Twitter for Websites will no longer support IE6 and IE7 as of May 13, 2013 because “usage has dwindled significantly over the past few years as users have moved to more modern browsers.”
While all external widgets will no longer be rendered in Internet Explorer 6, IE7 will still work for a while, Twitter said, but all features would eventually cease to function in both browsers at a later time.
At this point, Internet Explorer 6 is shockingly popular, with Net Applications data revealing that it's currently the fifth top browser in the entire world. IE6 is installed on more than 6 percent of all computers worldwide, while Microsoft's latest version, IE10, has barely reached a market share of 2.93 percent.
