Internet Explorer remains the top choice for computer users worldwide when it comes to a desktop browser, but it’s not version 10 that’s making the difference.

According to Net Applications data, IE8 and IE9 remained the two most popular browsers in February, with a market share of 23.33 percent and 21.67 percent, respectively.

Internet Explorer 6.0, the build that was released 11 years ago, is still impressively popular, as it recorded a 6.33 percent share, while version 10, the one that’s currently available in both Windows 8 and Windows 7, reached a record 1.58 percent.

Overall, Internet Explorer owns 55.82 percent of the market, while Mozilla Firefox remains the fiercest rival with a 20.12 share. Google Chrome comes third with 16.27 percent, while Apple’s very own Safari is only fourth with 5.42 percent.
