Even though Microsoft claims that Internet Explorer is currently the number one browser in the entire world, StatCounter data prove otherwise.

According to statistics for this month, Chrome is currently the number one browser in the world with a market share of 39.11 percent, followed by Microsoft’s Internet Explorer with 29.76 percent.

Mozilla’s Firefox is only third with 20.03 percent, while Apple’s very own Safari comes fourth with 8.01 percent.

Version-wise, Internet Explorer 9.0 is the most popular version of Microsoft in-house browser, as it’s currently installed on 13.41 percent of computers worldwide, while IE 8.9 is next with 9.29 percent.

IE 10, the newest build that’s currently available for Windows 8 and Windows 7 users, has a market share of 6.2 percent, more than Firefox 19 (5.54 percent) and Chrome 25 (1.91 percent).
