Microsoft is working to bring Metro apps on the desktop in future Windows updates

It’s a well-known fact that Microsoft is trying to make Metro apps more successful on its modern operating system and part of the company’s plans is also an option that would allow users to launch these apps right on the desktop.

As WinBeta noted, the first step has already been made, as the Windows 8.1 Update 1 build 9600.16596 screenshots that got leaked earlier today also come with options to pin Metro apps to the taskbar.

It’s not yet clear whether Microsoft plans to implement options to run Metro apps on the desktop in Windows 8.1 Update 1, but people familiar with the matter have hinted earlier this month that such a feature would definitely be part of the upcoming Windows 9.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is set to make its public debut at the BUILD developer conference in April, so more details are very likely to emerge as we get closer to this show.
