Users will be allowed to pin all Metro apps to the taskbar

As I told you yesterday when screenshots of a new Windows 8.1 Update 1 build reached the web, Microsoft might allow users to pin Metro apps to the taskbar in the future OS version.

A new set of screenshots that reached the web only a few minutes ago reveal that the company is working to implement a new customization option in the Taskbar settings panel to “Show Store apps on the taskbar.”

One of the screenshots published by Win8China show multiple Metro apps pinned to the taskbar, including People, Weather, PC Settings, Maps, and Photos, but it’s not yet clear whether users would be allowed to pin third-party items as well.

This could be the first step of a major change that might be finalized in Windows 9, as Microsoft is reportedly working to bring Metro apps on the desktop and allow users run them in their own windows.
