Internet Explorer is often criticized for being too slow, insecure, or lacking too many features, so it’s no wonder that many people actually switch to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox when looking for alternatives.

But as far as Americans are concerned, Internet Explorer is just as good as any other browser. At least, that’s what these stats provided by StatCounter appear to suggest.

Spotted by MarketingLand, this chart shows the browser market share in the United States between October and December 2014, which perfectly confirms that Internet Explorer experienced a pretty impressive and sudden growth in the last month of the year.

In November 2014, Google Chrome was the number one browser in the country with a share of 34.99 percent, while Internet Explorer was the runner-up with 31.09 percent.

In December, however, the two browsers switched their places and Internet Explorer became number one in the United States with 40.17 percent, while Google Chrome fell to the second position with a share of 29.97 percent.

While this is impressive for Microsoft and Internet Explorer, there’s no doubt that the upcoming refresh of the browser is playing quite an important role for this growing interest in the browser. Windows 10 is very likely to ship with Spartan, a brand new browser that at first could be offered alongside Internet Explorer, but which at some point could replace it completely.
