Old filters ditched in favor of modern, more reliable ones

Over the weekend, the popular Media Player Classic – Home Cinema (MPC-HC) edition reached a new stable build. It brings to the table plenty of changes, chief among them being the replacement of the internal filters with LAV Filters.

The move occurred because of the new filters’ advantage in terms of reliability, speed and stability over the old ones.

LAV filters are open-source DirectoShow media splitter and decoders based on FFMpeg and come integrated in MPC-HC, so no additional installation is required.

Also new in this release is support for loading HTTP/RTSP/UDP/RTP streams using embedded source filters, the ability to display all available audio tracks, those embedded and displayed by the source filter and the external tracks, too.

In the case of the playlist component users should see a new command in the context menu, which allows moving the selected entry to the Recycle Bin; a keyboard shortcut is also provided.

Apart from this, MPC-HC 1.7.0 features improved support for RARFileSource integration along with several bug fixes.
