Redmond has released a new update for its search engine

Microsoft has just rolled out a new Bing feature that has been available in Google search for a while but still promises to greatly enhance searching experience for US users.

Basically, thanks to the new update, Bing now provides travel time and mileage data for your destination, based on the shortest route for two user-defined points.

At the same time, driving directions are also available on mobile platforms, including Windows Phone, iPhone, and Android, the company said, in an attempt to make Bing a bit more helpful on the go as well.

“When you click on the map or the ‘turn by turn directions’ link, we’ll launch the Bing Maps experience where you will see a detailed set of turn-by-turn directions. Because we know directions are most useful when you’re on the go, we’ve enabled this mobile browser experience across the top smart phones including Windows Phone, iPhone and Android devices,” the company explained in a blog post.

While it’s encouraging to hear that Microsoft frequently updates Bing with new options, it’s still awkward to see that features that debuted in Google Search a long time ago are only now integrated into Redmond’s own search engine.

Microsoft hasn’t yet mentioned whether it plans to offer the same features outside the US or not, but this is most likely the next step towards a more effective search engine for everyone.
