Redmond removed Facebook support in the Windows 8.1 Photos app

The Photos app has received a major update in Windows 8.1, but in addition to several new features, the program lost support for Facebook and Flickr, which proved to be quite popular among adopters of Microsoft’s modern operating system.

The company is again praising the new Photos app by highlighting some of its key features, but without saying a thing about the removed Facebook and Flickr support.

“With the Photos app, I’ve started flipping through all my photos from the past year and deleting some of those extra copies or less-than-perfect shots. It’s easier to delete without fear, because the Photos app shows me full-screen images—so I can really see what kind of quality my pictures are,” Microsoft’s Amy D. said in a blog post.

Microsoft’s only explanation for removing Facebook and Flickr in the Photos app is that the Windows Store has grown so much lately that third-party apps to replace these features are already up for grabs at absolutely no charge. Paradoxically, there is no official Flickr app for Windows 8.1 right now in the store.
