Microsoft is about to begin a new major discount campaign for its Surface RT tablet, as the company is apparently trying to clear out existing stocks in preparation for the second-generation scheduled to arrive this month.

Mary Jo Foley writes that students, schools, and universities will be able to purchase a Surface RT 32 GB for only $199 (€149), while the Touch Cover version is priced at $249 (€185).

In addition, accessories also come at very special prices, with the standard Touch Cover being offered for only $50 (€37.5) in a total of 25 countries around the world, including the US, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Russia, and Spain.

“Yes, it’s true. It’s important Microsoft does its part to help get devices into the hands of educators that help prepare today’s students with skills modern businesses demand. We will be discussing this more in greater detail on June 24, both from the ISTE showroom floor and on our Education Newsroom. Please join us then!" a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed for the aforementioned source.
