Microsoft continues its fight against piracy in China

China remains one of the countries where the number of pirated Windows versions almost matches the overall count of copies using a genuine license, but Microsoft seems to be fully prepared to change this.

Nick Psyhogeos, Microsoft vice president, said during a media briefing that Windows 8 is likely to be one of the most secure operating systems when it comes to piracy, but it acknowledged that hackers are constantly finding new ways to break into software applications, according to WSJ.

What’s more, the company has tried to demonstrate Chinese users that piracy does more harm than good by revealing the results of a test involving a total of 169 computers running counterfeited software.

91 percent of these systems were loaded with malware, while 72 percent of them came with malicious browser settings supposed to force users load fraudulent websites.

Unsurprisingly, however, some people have already managed to get Windows 8 for free due to a loophole involving the Windows Media Center pack.
