It’s a well-known fact that Microsoft plans to completely retire Windows XP on April 8, 2014, so the company talks about the security risks of staying with this particular OS version with every single occasion.

This time, Microsoft’s Stella Chernyak claims that more consumers are actually giving up on Windows XP for the newly-launched Windows 8.1, mostly because the modern operating system comes with great performance and security improvements.

“With the one year anniversary of Windows 8 behind us, we are also seeing more enterprise customers move away from Windows XP to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 – like Campari Australia and Meiji Yasuda – who have chosen a more modern operating system to give their workers the tools they need to be productive while keeping their data secure,” Chernyak explained.

Microsoft’s employee, however, forgets to mention that moving from Windows XP to 8.1 also involves new hardware, which makes the whole transition a lot more expensive.

As you know, Windows XP will go dark on April 8, 2014, so you have less than six months to pick your next OS version if you’re still running the aging platform.
