Microsoft will close the doors of its Korean research and development division as soon as next month as the company will move its Asian R&D center to Beijing.

The 21 employees currently working for the Korean unit be ordered to relocate, The Korea Herald reports citing a Microsoft Korea official.

Ten of these employees have already received calls to move to Redmond, Washington, while the other 11 will have to either switch to career consulting and recruitment programs or choose another department.

“The R&D team was an organization that was under the U.S. headquarters and it also had a direct report line to (Redmond),” the Microsoft official was quoted as saying.

“We believe it will not have much of an impact in our operations here since it did not belong to the Korean branch in the first place.”
