The company says new devices are in the works right now

Microsoft has been hard at work to make Windows 10 better for desktops, tablets, and smartphones, and as part of these efforts, the company has also prepared a new lineup of high-end models that would make the most of the new platform.

While recently Microsoft has rolled out mostly budget models specifically designed to take on Android in developing markets, new flagships are also on their way, and according to the company itself, they should arrive sometime this year.

Terry Myerson confirmed this at the Windows 10 press event on Wednesday but didn't provide any specifics, so it's really hard to predict when these devices would actually see daylight.

Previous speculation on this indicated that flagships wouldn't arrive sooner than the fall of 2015, which is when the company should also debut Windows 10 in final form. On the other hand, there were some rumors that the first Windows 10 devices could be unveiled in March at the MWC conference in Barcelona, but given the fact that the phone OS is still in its very early stages, that's very unlikely to happen.

Basically, the new flagships should be the official successors to Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520, both of which are more or less aged devices whose users are asking for software and hardware updates.

Obviously, it's way too early to speculate on their successors, but we've heard that Lumia 940 and Lumia 1530, if Microsoft wants to call them this way, would come with very powerful hardware that would help them compete with high-end Android devices and iPhones.
