Touch is the new trend in the IT industry, so in addition to spending millions of dollars on products supposed to take advantage of it, Microsoft is also looking to improve the overall experience provided by this new way of interacting with computing devices.

Microsoft Research, the software giant’s arm responsible for developing new innovative technologies, has created a new 3D touchscreen capable of offering tactile feedback to users.

Basically, the new tech uses haptic technology that offers feedback to users with pressure or vibration, so you can easily determine how different objects on the screen actually feel when touching them.

"The force-feedback monitor responds to convey the sensation of different materials: The stone block “feels” hard to the touch and requires more force to push, while the sponge block is soft and easy to push,” Microsoft engineer Michel Pahud explained.
