Microsoft is trying really hard to embrace the devices and services company concept Steve Ballmer has talked about so many times in the past, so the Windows maker is now working on some gadgets that could hit the market in the near future.

A smart watch is reportedly in the pipeline right now, as Microsoft apparently wants to compete against the likes of Apple and Samsung, both of which are currently working on similar devices.

Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of the Windows Phone Division, said during the Dive Into Mobile conference organized by AllThingsD that a smart watch indeed represents a huge opportunity for any company, hinting that Microsoft might really develop such a product.

“It's an exciting space. There's no doubt that wearable computing has incredible potential,” he was quoted as saying by The Verge.

If these rumors are true, Microsoft’s 1.5-inch Windows smart watch should see daylight later this year.
