Microsoft has recently confirmed that Windows 8.1 will bring a set of improvements to Surface tablets too, but the company is also planning some updates for its tablet covers too.

Brian Hall, general manager of Microsoft Surface, said in a statement that both the Touch and the Type Cover will come with support for some essential Windows shortcuts to improve the productivity side of the tablet.

“With an update that will come in about a week for Surface, we’ll have the ability to toggle between what the keys on the top row do, get some quick access to other capabilities like screenshots through shortcuts, and just make some things like paging easier to do with one hand,” Hall explained.

Basically, the new hotkeys are based on the function key and allow users to quickly adjust brightness, print screen or access the home page.

More information, however, will be provided in approximately one week when Microsoft is set to unveil the new software update.
