The company wants to use Foursquare data to make its products better
Microsoft will invest $15 million in Foursquare as part of a partnership that’s in the end supposed to help the tech giant make Windows and Bing better with location-based data.Foursquare confirmed the strategic partnership in a short blog, adding that Windows, Windows Phone, and Bing will be the three main products to benefit from this new deal.
“In the near future, when you use Microsoft devices powered by the Windows and Windows Phone operating systems and products like Bing, places will be enhanced by Foursquare – to provide contextually-aware experiences and the best recommendations of any service in the world,” Foursquare said.
“As part of this partnership, Microsoft has also invested in Foursquare (joining our previously-announced round of funding from December). This will help us continue to build out our product, and, even more excitingly, make sure more people get access to the power of Foursquare.”
Microsoft was already using Foursquare data for a number of Windows and Windows Phone applications, but expect some important updates and new projects to be announced in the coming months.
