Microsoft has just announced that it's joining the We Day and We Act program in Seattle and in San Francisco, as part of its own YouthSpark initiative supposed to help youth by providing access to technology.

The company will thus become co-title sponsors of the Free the Children's programs for a total of three years, Microsoft said in a press statement.

“Our goal is to encourage more young people to build and use technology to change their world – like these four Ukrainian students who developed a way to translate sign language into the written word by embedding flex sensors, gyroscopes, touch sensors and accelerometers into a glove,” Redmond explained, while pointing to some of the projects created by students it supports.

The YouthSpark initiative has also provided funds to provide access to technologies in poor African countries, with Microsoft promising to continue similar efforts in the coming months in even more locations.
