VLC for Windows 8 is now available for download, but inexperienced users might have a really hard time when trying to get the application on their devices.

As we’ve reported to you several times before, the amount of spam in the Windows Store is increasing and although it promised to clean it and remove some of the fake entries and clones listed for download, Microsoft doesn’t really seem to pay attention to the apps that get the green light for the store.

A simple search for VLC in the Windows Store returns plenty of useless results, some of which are actually applications trying to capitalize on the popularity of the original app and trick people into believing that they are getting the real deal.

While the original VLC for Windows 8 app is also listed on the results page, there are several other clones that are also included, such as Video Player for VLC, Play from VLC, VideoVLC Player, and VLC DVD Ripper. Most are available with a small fee and no trial version is offered, which means that users have no other option than to purchase a full license to download the app.

With all those being said, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft must clean the Windows Store as soon as possible, especially if it wants the high-quality apps to gain in popularity fast.
